Our Frequently Asked Questions
The Anxiety Specialist offers completely different approach to mental health and wellbeing because it offers training that helps you to learn about you! During sessions, you will develop a deep understanding about yourself, your beliefs, your psychological foundations and thinking styles which cause and maintain your symptoms.
Once you have that insight, it can be very easy to think differently, change old patterns of behaviour and take back control. When you understand yourself and your mental health, it becomes much easier to be resilient, to stay happy, healthy, be successful and to achieve your goals.
Abi Twomlow originally trained as a teacher and worked with young people from the ages of 4 – 14 for a decade. This meant that she developed the skills to communicate new concepts and understanding at a range of levels. Abi then retrained in Psychology after seeing so many pupils, friends and colleagues struggling with mental health and not seeking or receiving the support that they needed.
After struggling with anxiety and depression herself, Abi undertook a course of Psychotherapy and trained to become a mental health consultant working with adults, children, businesses and schools before setting up The Anxiety Specialist independently.

You need to engage and interact in the sessions, be as open and honest as you can.
After each session, you will be given some practical activities to put into action and maybe some challenges to think about or look into, nothing out of your comfort zone or difficult.
There will be a few quizzes and tasks to complete that will be used to measure your progress and set goals to move forward.
The Anxiety Specilaist approach is entirely different from techniques such as NLP or CBT because 90% of it’s success lays in YOUR understanding of your thinking and beliefs that are creating the issues.
If you are not able to understand or alter the driving forces behind your anxiety, symptoms or unhelpful beliefs, it can feel as though you are treading water or fire-fighting, working hard trying to keep negative thoughts and feelings at bay.
These methods mainly deal with controlling negative thoughts rather than significantly altering the beliefs that are causing these thoughts in the first place. So why spend time fighting off negative thoughts and feelings when you can learn not to create them in the first place?
