Anxiety is a word that is used (and probably overused) in everyday talk nowadays. But there seems to have become a blur between the distinction between anxiety, stress and worry. So let me explain…
Stress = a natural, physical response triggered by something happening in the present moment that requires you to fight or flee. Eg – someone jumping out to mug you down an alleyway.
Worry = Something that happens in the mind. Overthinking and analysing things that haven’t yet happened or are not even likely to happen.
Anxiety = a physical stress response caused by a worrying mind. In other words, where unhelpful thoughts cause physical or overwhelming emotional responses.
There are a huge number of symptoms of anxiety. In fact, it could be argued that many mental health issues stem from anxiety.
However, here are some of the most common symptoms of anxiety:
Worrying a lot!
Panic attacks
Overwhelming emotions that are unwanted.
Low self esteem
Overthinking
Blowing situations out of proportion in your mind
Often imagining worst case scenarios
Not being able to get things in perspective
Sleep problems (insomnia, nightmares, trouble getting or staying asleep)
Lack of motivation
Feeling nervous/restless/tense/irritable
Physical symptoms such as: stomach aches, headaches/migraines, teeth grinding, hair pulling, racing heart, sweating, trembling, chest pain, trapped wind, feeling out of control/overwhelmed, crying. These symptoms may be regular, on and off or only in specific circumstances.
Do you have any or many of the symptoms above on a regular basis and do they impact your day to day life? Do you feel fear, uncertainty or doubt that stops you doing things you want to do? Do you spend a lot of time worrying?
1 in 4 people have struggled with anxiety at one point or another. But if you feel these unhelpful feelings and have these unhelpful thoughts often and they interfere with your life then something needs to change.
What people THINK causes anxiety:
Past events.
Traumatic events that have happened.
Chemical imbalances in the brain.
That is just part of who you are/part of your personality
Genetics/Hereditary – it runs in the family.
NONE OF THESE IS THE CAUSE! They may cause emotional distress at that time, but not anxiety now.
What ACTUALLY causes anxiety:
Unhelpful thinking habits.
Powerless belief systems.
Reliance on things or people to make you feel ‘good’ or ‘bad’
Low self esteem.
Critical inner voice.
Chanya is entirely different from other therapy techniques because 90% of it’s success lies in YOUR understanding of your thinking and beliefs that are creating the issues.
If you are not able to understand or alter the driving forces behind your anxiety, symptoms or unhelpful beliefs, it can feel as though you are treading water or fire-fighting, working hard trying to keep negative thoughts and feelings at bay.
Other therapy methods mainly deal with controlling negative thoughts/feelings rather than significantly altering the beliefs that are causing these thoughts in the first place. So why spend time fighting off negative thoughts and feelings when you can learn not to create them in the first place?
Chanya courses use a positive, training style method which doesn’t involve talking about your feelings or your past! It teaches you what great mental health looks like, where things might need working on and how to work on them! It is interesting, thought-provoking and even enjoyable! It’s a really relaxed and predictable approach that always makes people pleasantly surprised!
You can completely overcome the symptoms of anxiety – yes!
The thing with anxiety is that sometimes it is a normal, emotional response. After all, people who don’t “suffer” WITH anxiety don’t NEVER feel anxiety. The difference is that they don’t feel overwhelmed, they can get perspective when they feel anxious, it doesn’t impact their life.
You can absolutely be that person.
100%!
Panic attacks can seemingly come from nowhere. But there is an unnoticed patterns of thinking or behaviour that tend to lead to the panic attack.
Chanya courses help you to gain a deep understanding of these thinking patterns and the behaviours they create so that you can escape these patterns. When you do this, you no longer have panic attacks.
Yes. Most IBS is stress related. When I myself was diagnosed with IBS after many surgical investigations, I took this to mean that there was something medically wrong with my body that was causing these severe pains and unpleasant physical responses.
But myself, and many of my clients, find that they never suffer a bout of IBS once they learn how to take control of their anxiety,
That is down to you! If you are prepared to put in the effort, there is no reason that you won’t succeed in your symptoms being significantly or completely reduced.
Chanya courses are not a magical quick fix and therefore won’t work for anyone who isn’t willing to take up the task of applying the learning into their daily life
